Overview
The Alliance against Violence and Adversity (AVA) is a training platform and knowledge mobilization hub focused on addressing gender violence and adversity by bringing down barriers between academia and community to generate community-driven, actionable and impactful research (avatraining.ca). A core part of AVA’s training program are the AVA Online Training Modules, an online, asynchronous curriculum equivalent to a 3-credit university course consisting of content (modules) provided by community/health and academic experts from across Canada organized into four major themes (adult gender violence, child adversity, implementation science, EDIA) and three micro-credentialled levels (AVA Foundations - Badge, AVA Intermediate - Badge and AVA Advanced - Certificate). The AVA Certificate requires completion of a Capstone Reflection assignment. AVA Online was designed for diverse scholars, from current students to social workers, nurses and other practitioners; individuals with lived experience in gender violence are part of the AVA Online design team.
AVA Online was launched January 2024. The purpose of this study is to evaluate AVA Online, specifically scholar background and sociodemographic information, module registration and completion rates, and scholar feedback on individual modules. The evaluation outcomes will be used to launch an AVA Online 2.0 during Summer 2025.
