Practical Nursing Students' Perspectives on the Transition Experience from Health Care Aide to Licensed Practical Nurse Role
Overview
This research position will support our research program, which focuses on examining nurses' transition experiences as they move to new roles with expanded scopes of practice. The project addresses understanding what nurses experience as they learn, grow, and develop their skills so we can improve education and mentorship, so nurses feel confident in their skills and deliver safe, quality health care to patients.
Specific activities include, but are not limited to
The project involves conducting a literature review, developing data collection tools, and data collection through surveys and interviews.
The primary job duties for the research assistant (RA-2, GRA-1, or GRA-2) will include work such as
- Conducting literature reviews
- Preparing grant applications and research ethics board applications
- Interviewing study participants and managing research data
- Potential involvement in data analysis and manuscript preparation
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree required
- Strong writing skills
- Ability to work independently and remotely
- Experience with manuscript preparation and literature reviews
- Completion of TCPS 2.0 CORE module an asset
- Previous research experience, qualitative research or mixed methods background preferred
- Demonstrates confidence and maturity in interpersonal relationships
- Ability to be flexible, respond to changing priorities and meet deadlines
- Demonstrate initiative and be self-motivated whilst knowing when to seek help
- Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
