Dr. Laura Jurgens is a Course Production Coordinator for the Faculty of Science and Technology at Athabasca University. She holds a PhD from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary and has experience with academic writing and editing. Laura has published several peer-reviewed academic journal articles, an academic book chapter, and a book with an academic press. She has served as a guest editor for a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal.
Laura also has a strong background in online teaching and learning at the post-secondary level as well as extensive knowledge of best practices for instructional design. In 2016, Laura started developing and teaching online for-credit courses using various platforms (specifically Blackboard, Moodle, and Brightspace). She has taught courses on various subjects, including courses focusing on critical reading and writing, for the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, and Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Before becoming a Course Production Coordinator, she worked as a Learning Management Systems (LMS) Course Migration Assistant with the Digital Strategy Office and contributed to the Integrated Learning Environment (ILE) at Athabasca University. In her spare time, Laura enjoys baking, fitness, and episodes of Agatha Christie’s Poirot.
