I am the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology and an Associate Professor of Biology. I completed my PhD at the University of Calgary in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Infectious Diseases. My research is currently focused in two areas: environmental microbiology and open access education. In am working in collaboration with Bigstone Cree Nation and researchers at Athabasca University and the University of Calgary on a project analyzing water quality and biodiversity using metagenomics approaches. This work is focused on determining environmental impacts that affect animal health and food sustainability for First Nations communities.

I am also involved in open education research, through the implementation of Open Educational Resources (OERs) and the development and delivery of a MOOC in Quality Graduate Supervision with the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and researchers in the Taylor Institute at the University of Calgary. I support open science and open access publishing. As the dean I work closely with faculty, staff, and students and am fully committed to providing innovative and meaningful learning opportunities for our students.
