Our professional development courses

Alberta RN and RPN Prescribing

These 2 courses were developed for Alberta registered nurses (RNs) or registered psychiatric nurses (RPNs) who work in jurisdictions that allow them to prescribe.

Each course has 2 modules that can be taken concurrently or sequentially.

They may also be of interest to RNs and RPNs in other areas who wish to learn more about prescribing and ordering diagnostic tests.

Manitoba RN and RPN prescribing

These 2 courses were developed for Manitoba registered nurses (RNs) and registered psychiatric nurses (RPNs) who work in areas that allow them to prescribe. These courses are approved by the CRNM and CRPNM and serve as the educational component to qualifying as an RN(AP) and RPN(AP).

Each course has 2 modules that can be taken concurrently or sequentially.

Controlled drugs and substances

This course is for nurse practitioners who wish to prescribe narcotics or controlled substances in their practice. The course is recognized by CARNA (the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta).

Concepts in Mental Health

Foundational and advanced knowledge of mental health and the treatment of mental disorders is important to providing high-quality primary health care in community settings. The Faculty of Health Disciplines offers 2 courses to enhance this knowledge.

These courses can be taken according to individual learning need or sequentially.
