Guide to funding and student loans
Review the eligibility requirements, funding guidelines, and application procedures for provincial and federal student loans in the province or territory that you live in.
Identifying yourself as having a permanent disability will enable you to apply for specific funding programs for students with disabilities, which may include:
- full-time student status with a reduced course load (40%)
- eligibility for alternative loan repayment programs
- bursaries for services and equipment
Medical documentation must be provided your provincial student aid board to identify the presence of a permanent disability or medical condition. Individuals with learning disabilities or attention disorders will be required to provide a copy of their psycho-educational assessment.
You will need to determine whether to apply for a:
- full-time student loan
- part-time student loan or
- part-time bursary
It Is extremely important to consult with an AU student financial aid advisor to organize your application. Your application for student aid includes an AU course registration plan.
Accessibility Services recommends that you start the financial aid application process 4 to 6 months before your intended start date.
Bursaries under the Canada Student Grant can be applied for throughout the year. Planning so you have the equipment and services in place before you start courses is very important. Student financial aid applications and bursaries under the CSG are 2 different, simultaneous processes.
