Ten steps to consider first
Is AU at the top of your list for post-secondary education? Here are some things to consider making your decision easier.
- Do I have a clear vision of how education will help me reach my career goal?
- If you are unsure, learn about 4 essential steps to consider when planning your career and education.
- Am I sure that AU distance learning is the right fit for me?
- Assess your study skills. Students who achieve success with distance learning have strong time management skills, are persistent, and determined. If you are unsure, learn how distance education works here.
- Do I have at least 12 hours per week (2 hours per day, 6 days a week) available to study for each course I register for?
- If you plan to take more than 1 course, you will need to multiply your weekly study time by the number of courses you register for. Assess your available time if you plan to register for more than 1 course.
- Is English not your first language?
- You must demonstrate that you are proficient in English upon enrolment to the university. You may find the English language proficiency program helps to improve your ability.
- Am I ready for university-level courses?
- If you are unsure, consider taking preparation courses if you are new to post-secondary studies.
- Have I selected a course or program of study?
- You can find more information here if you need support selecting an educational program.
- Do I have previous college or university credits that may be transferable to Athabasca University?
- If so, visit transfer credit services and calendar evaluations . If you are a new student and wish to apply to an AU program, you can request a transfer credit evaluation during the process of completing the undergraduate application.
- Am I ready to pay for my education?
